Review: High school misfit Carrie (Sissy Spacek) are releasing telekinetic fury of his tormentors. This was a huge hit in 1976 and was scared silly. It does not scare me now (with the exception of the closure order), but I still think it's a good solid horror film nicely care of Brian De Palma. It moves fast, has great pictures (everything is shot in soft focus in muted colors), and it is almost uniformally good performance. The only bad thing is a lot of John Travolta's play in the hood. Out of his depth Amy Irving (such as a student who befriends Carrie), William Katt (very 70s afro), Nancy Allen (playing a real bitch), Betty Buckley (so young and full of energy) and PJ Soles (silly, but bearable) are all perfect. But Spacek is a great counterbalance to Piper Laurie, which is a very scary and wonderful as her disturbed religious mother. In addition, the film (by today's standards) very low-key in terms of blood and gore. And the final order will jump (even the cars in the background on that note - she in a recession) Only complaints - De Palma really hate some of the high school kids - you feel like hes working some personal foreground . And we really need at the beginning of a slow-mo shower set? That aside - this is a good movie. See letter boxed.
