Review: Good memories of Paul Verhoeven's Total Recall keep coming back while watching the remake. The presence of screen Arnold Schwarzenegger was added, plus the film in 1990 and a one-ships, Mars and of course a bunch of bloody violence. If you've seen the original, then you know how to replace a goes.Len Visemans remake of Arnold replaces Colin Farrell, in his first leading role in the action year while eliminating Mars as background action and overpopulated country where transportation from one corner to the other place, literally, through the center of the country. Robust underground labyrinths on the red planet has been replaced by gleaming skyscrapers and elegant, flying cars, not unlike Philip K. Dicks have Blade Runner and Minority Report.Farrell act and certainly a strong lead and action shows here in beautiful ladies Kate Beckinsale and Jessica Biel both flaunt brawn than beauty here. Oh, everything is taken too seriously in this version. I have fonder memories of the Verhoeven / Arnold versions where liners come later Arnie kill. Gone. Some characters have been shortened or even completely cut off from the original. Brian Cranstons Cohaagen makes me miss Ronny Cox even more, and Bill Nighis opposition leader did not stand out in comparison to the film in 1990. The best thing the writers did Sharon Stones and Michael Ironsides combining film in 1990, and Kate Beckinsale to play, it starts a serious ass characters here. The scenario is almost complete removal of the original, except for the institutions and the final act of the film. Bokeem Voodbines scene where a character tries to Quaid (Farrell), where hes still confident in his sleep is certainly striking scene very well done. Unfortunately, most of the film is peppered with action scenes and sensational special effects (seriously, this is a CGI porn) that the film can not get a nomination for best visual effects this year. No kidding. While editing is fast and thin film (with a bit too much flare ala JJ Abrams), a musical score Harry Gregson-Williams was pretty bland in my opinion. It was just there, doing his job, and I did not care. Wheres Marco Beltrami, or even interest legendary mentor, the late, great Jerry Goldsmith when they need a director Wiseman has a knack for action scenes (Underworld, Die Hard 4) and see it in abundance here late?. Unfortunately, the script couldve been much better, but again, if they put it on Mars it vouldve shot-for-shot remake with better characters, but I saw vouldve As the action on the red planet again. PG-13 rating is appropriate, and indeed there are several homages to the original, but all in all, this is a remake of nothing more than a quick, good popcorn munching a waste of time, with some really nice CGI on on.Hovever, Id rather chew again look at old. Arnie has a much stronger presence than Farrell screen and it is much more ambitious and has more heart than the sleeker, newer one.Overall: 53%
